Movie related blog July 29th, 2007

This post pertains to Jails, Institutions, and Death.  I have received word from one of my writers.  He is excited and has told me he is working and should have a partial script by tomorrow.  Now the partial script?  I am sure you are thinking, what's the point of a partial script?  Well, I am doing an interview process with three separate writers.  The ad I placed for a screenwriter was responded too by three writers. So in order to be fair and also to allow me to see what each one is capable of writing, I sent out a partial copy of the book.  So the partial scripts will allow me to pick the best writer for the job.  The beginning is the most important part of this movie, therefore the partial will tell me exactly who we will be using as our 'official, credited screenwriter.'
I am pleased with his enthusiasm and I have yet to hear from the other two writers except that they told me they received the copy of the book.  Which is good for now, but as time ticks on and we reach the 30 day mark from the time I sent it and they received it, their chances become less and less likely I will use them.
This project is not going to be done half ass.  I am not going to fly through pre-production.  I said I would like to be casting by November, but I will not do that if I feel all our pieces are not in place.  I am not going to spend a lot of money on this project and then cut corners.  It is all or nothing.  As soon as I can get a working script, I will bring in the crew I have gathered so far and have a nice meeting with everyone together.  This should alleviate any questions and concerns.  Not to mention open up the floor for debate about direction.  I don't mind making the decisions that will affect the film in the long run, the tough decisions I mean, but I love feedback.  Especially feedback from people who are seriously involved with the film and wholeheartedly support it.
This is either going to make or break my Executive Producing future.  I would like to help out other filmmakers in the future and finance their projects.  But first I want to make sure this project is a success.  And for the record, success to me does NOT mean make a profit.  I mean, the film will be high quality, it will be available for purchase somewhere, and hopefully can be submitted in some Indie fest. somewhere.  With all that being said, this is a learning experience for some, fun for others.  This project is just another project for some of the crew.  We have a spectacular sound guy for post-production, he will more than likely be involved with production so we have everything we need for post, and he will be on board for pre-production so I know what is needed, and the costs of said things.
Well, that is all I have for now.  If you are an actor, which others have already contacted me, please continue to check this site for future reference on casting calls.  I will also be posting on act one, The Reader, Myspace, etc...I will forward all actor messages to my casting director...Thanks again for all the responses and interest in this project.  That is why I am doing it, there obviously is an interest and support for it.

Thanks.
